From Oct. 1 to Oct. 31, open burning of yard and garden waste on properties of one acre (43,560 square feet) or greater within the City of Kamloops and Tk’emlúps Indian Band is allowed with a permit.
However, there are conditions that apply to the $100 permits and failure to comply with the conditions or obtain the necessary permit may result in a $500 fine.
Conditions include:
• No burning outside the venting index;
• No burning after dark;
• Burning for commercial or industrial, as well as on properties with an area less than one acre, is prohibited;
Permits for burning within the city must be picked up at Fire Station No. 1, 1205 Summit Dr., phone 250-372-5131.
Hours of operation are Mondays to Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
Permits will only be issued during regular business hours.
Cash or cheques are accepted to pay for the $100 permit fee and residents are asked to bring the exact amount.
Permits for burning within the Tk’emlúps Indian band must be picked up, starting on Oct. 1, at the TIB office, 220 – 330 Chief Alex Thomas Way, phone (250) 314-1570.

Beginning Oct. 20, permits for land clearing, hazard abatement and farm status will be issued for the period from Nov. 1 to March 31.
