Both the men’s and women’s WolfPack soccer teams were shut out on Friday, Sept. 26, on the road at the University of the Fraser Valley.

Thompson Rivers University’s men lost 3-0, while the women were downed 1-0.

The UFV Cascades improved to 6-1 and remain atop the Canada West’s Pacific Division.

The WolfPack is now 0-5 and sits last in the division.

“We had some good chances and we shot more tonight,”  TRU head coach Tom McManus said in a news release.

“The team played well at times. The sad thing that it was our mistake that led to the goal by UFV. We gave the ball away in our defensive third instead of playing it out long we hit a square pass first. It was cut off and pushed through.”

The men’s game was a stalemate through the first half, but the second saw UFV break out for three markers.

“We need to play better and shake this one off,” head coach John Antulov said in a news release. “The guys battled hard and never gave up. Not once did one of our players quit. Even the guys coming off the bench gave it all they had and that is all we can ask as a coaching staff.”

Though both teams are trying to remain positive, some cracks in the optimism are beginning to show.

“The young guys don’t know what to expect but our older players are frustrated,” Antulov continued. “They are competitors and they are used to winning. They don’t like what’s been happening but they aren’t going to give up.”

Both WolfPack teams will regroup today for afternoon matches against the Trinity Western University Spartans of Langley.
