The province will tender the final section of a four-laning project on the Trans-Canada Highway from Kamloops through Hoffman’s Bluff this week.

The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said the tender is expected to be awarded by the end of the year.

Construction on the 3.1-kilometre of road will widen the highway from two lanes to four lanes through the notorious canyon beside the South Thompson River that has been the location of many fatalities over the past decades.

Construction is slated to begin in spring next year with completion by end the end of 2016.

Completion of the Hoffman’s Bluff project will represent the final phase of the $61.6-million project funded by the federal and provincial governments.
