Make your own brushbot

Dental hygiene will be fun during an upcoming workshop hosted by the Kamloops Library.

Screen Shot 2014-10-14 at 2.43.39 PMChildren ages eight and up are invited to join in the creation of brushbots, made of toothbrush heads, micro-vibrating
motors and coin-cell batteries, on Saturday, Oct. 18.

DayDream Unique, a Kamloops 3-D printing shop, along with Kamloops MakerSpace, will lead the workshop, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the downtown location, 465 Victoria St.

The event is free, but space is limited to 10 participants. 

To reserve a spot, call the library at 250-372-5145.

Laughs, all around

Local community group Fun Laughter Friends has several events coming up; times and locations can be confirmed by email to laugh2014@shaw.ca.

On Friday, Oct. 17, the group has plans for an appetizer and dessert party and, the next day, it plans a pot-luck dinner. 

Pre-registration is required by 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.

On Oct. 22, to recognize Turn Off Your Lights day promoted by BC Hydro, the group plans a candlelight pot-luck dinner and reminds those interested in taking part there will be no oven, stove or microwave to use, so dishes that don’t require using electricity are adevised. 

Reservations are required for the event by 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20.

The group is also interested in taking part in the Santa
Claus Parade on Saturday, Nov. 29, and is looking for people whishing to take part.

Fun Laughter Friends is in its second year in the city, is designed for adults only and requires all technological machines be turned off, if possible, during the social events.

Bees, if you please

The Kamloops Garden Club is buzzing in anticipation of its guest speaker next week.

The club, which meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month at the Heritage House on Lorne Street, will host on Wednesday, Oct. 22, master beekeepers who operate a honey farm.

The club will
meet in the upper level of Heritage House, at 100 Lorne St., at 7 p.m.

Membership is $20 per year. 

If you’re interested in becoming a member, attend a meeting and speak with an executive member.
