The Kamloops Blazers were shellacked in their own building on Friday, Nov. 28.
Fans at Interior Savings Centre watched as their beloved Blue and Orange was beaten 7-3 by the Regina Pats.
Regina set the tone early in the first period with strong forechecking, pressuring the Blazers into mistakes in their own zone.
Kamloops defenceman Josh Connolly coughed up the puck and Connor Gay capitalized, giving Regina a 1-0 lead at the 3:30 mark.
Morgan Klimchuk showed why he is a first-round NHL Draft pick less than two minutes later.
The Calgary Flames prospect picked up his own rebound and made it 2-0 at 4:46.
Things got worse for the home team at 5:50 when Jared McAmmond squeaked one through Blazer netminder Connor Ingram and across the goal line.
The Pats’ third goal marked the end of Ingram’s truncated night. He was chased after allowing three goals on five shots.
Cole Kehler replaced Ingram, but that didn’t seem to spark the Blazers.
Kyle Burroughs put an exclamation mark on the first period, rattling a point shot off the post and in with 13 seconds to play.
The second period started just as the first ended — with another Pats goal.
Gay notched his second of the night to give Regina a 5-0 lead.
Pavel Padakin got in on the act at 6:18 of the second period, scoring on the power play to give the visitors a six-goal cushion.
Fans at ISC finally had something to cheer about when Luke Harrison scored his fifth goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Pats leading the Blazers 6-1.
Logan McVeigh and Patrik Maier scored third-period goals for Kamloops and Gay netted his third of the night for Regina.
Tyler Brown stopped 34 shots between the pipes for the Pats. Kehler allowed four goals on 39 shots in relief of Ingram.
