The Kamloops Storm have taken a 3-0 stranglehold on their second-round playoff series against the 100 Mile House Wranglers.
In 100 Mile House for a pair of games on the road, the Storm topped the Wranglers 3-2 last night (March 5).
Dexter Robinson opened the scoring, netting his first goal of the post-season just five minutes into the game. Cameron Trott and Mitch Friesen drew the assists.
In the second frame, Friesen would again hit the scoresheet, scoring on Wranglers goaltender Kristian Stead, with Trott and Bobby Kashuba tallying the helpers, to put the Storm ahead 2-0.
100 Mile House would draw within one just a few minutes later, with the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s playoff-scoring leader, Michael Lynch, beating goaltender Jacob Mullen. Lynch has 12 points in nine playoff games, but his goal Thursday was just his second point of the series against Kamloops.
The Storm’s Ryan Keis would add a goal before the end of the period, Keaton Gordon and Addison Bazian also picked up points on the play, to put Kamloops ahead 3-1 before the end of the second.
In the third, neither team would hit the scoresheet until the final minutes of the frame. With about 1:30 remaining in the game, Devan Suidy scored to bring the Wranglers within one, but Mullen and the Storm were able to hold on for the victory.
Mullen stopped 27 shots in the victory, while the Storm directed 29 shots on the Wranglers’ Stead.
Kamloops was 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Game 4 of the series goes tonight, Friday, March 6, again in 100 Mile House.
Game 5, if necessary, will be played on McArthur Island and is slated for Saturday, March 7, at 7 p.m.
