The Kelowna Rockets evened their weekend series against the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday, March 14, winning the B.C. Division rematch 2-1 in Kelowna.
Rourke Chartier opened the scoring for the Rockets on Saturday at 1:07 of the first period before Blazers’ captain Matt Needham tied the game on the power play at 8:48.
Kelowna defenceman Madison Bowey notched the game-winning goal at 18:16 of the second period.
Rockets’ goaltender Jackson Whistle made 29 saves in the victory, while Connor Ingram stopped 24 shots in a losing effort.
The Blazers were 1-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Kamloops will finish its regular-season schedule with three consecutive games against the Prince George Cougars.
Prince George is hosting the first two matchups — on Wednesday and Friday — before the action moves to Kamloops on Saturday.
The Blazers are chasing the Cougars, who hold the third and final playoff spot in the B.C. Division.
Prince George, with 63 points, is two points ahead of Kamloops. Both teams have played 69 games.
Tri-City and Kamloops are tied with 61 points, fighting for eighth place in the Western Conference and the second of two wild-card berths.
The Americans have played 68 games.
