Traffic will be reduced to one lane tonight and tomorrow night on Overlanders Bridge as the city’s contractor prepares to cordon off a second lane of traffic.
Public works director Jen Fretz said traffic will drop to a single lane at 10:30 p.m. and return to two lanes starting at 5:30 a.m. The process will repeated on Wednesday night/Thursday morning.
Fretz said the additional lane closures are required so Innovative Civil Constructors Inc. can reposition the concrete barriers it is using to close off the western lanes of the bridge.
“As you can understand, there are safety issues with swinging those big concrete barriers into oncoming traffic, which is why we have to close down an additional lane for safety reasons,” Fretz said.
Once the barriers are in place, Fretz said two lanes of traffic will remain open around-the-clock on the bridge.
