Kamloops’ traffic watchers can now catch seven more views of the city’s commuting routes.
Two new Ministry of Transportation webcams went live on Friday.
The first, at the Highway 5 North and Halston Avenue intersection, offers four views of traffic at all times — north, south, east and west —rather than panning as the City of Kamloops webcam installed on Overlanders Bridge does.
According to a release, the camera will stay up permanently.
A second, temporary camera is up on Highway 5 and Mt. Paul Way, offering north, south and southeast views.
Unlike the city’s camera, the ministry’s cameras feature still images that are updated, rather than continuous footage, as does the city’s bridge cam.
Both cameras are accessible through the Southern Interior tab of the province’s DriveBC website at drivebc.ca/#webcams.
The city has encouraged motorists to use alternate routes, mainly Highway 5 North, to cross from the North to South shores as six months of construction continues on the Overlanders Bridge.
The bridge is down to two lanes of traffic, where it will stay for most of the project, and the Tranquille Road overpass closed to traffic this morning and will remain shut down for an estimated four weeks.
