The dream of winning a national championship is no more for the Thompson Rivers University baseball team.

The WolfPack lost its third game at the Canadian College Baseball Conference Championship on Friday, May 8, falling 3-2 to the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute Mariners.

With the loss, the Pack falls to 0-3 and is out of contention for a spot in the playoffs. They close out round-robin play on Saturday, May 9, against the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs.

TRU put together an early lead against the Mariners, after scoring a pair of runs in the third inning of play. It was the first time in the tournament the Pack held a lead.

But, in the top half of the fourth inning, VIBI responded with three runs of its own and managed to keep the Pack at bay for the rest of the game.

Mike Riddle pitched a complete game for TRU, surrendering seven hits, three runs and one walk, while striking out four.

At the plate, Erik Herbranson led the WolfPack with the team’s lone RBI, after going 1-for-4 at the plate.

Andrew Evernden went the distance on the mound for the Mariners, surrendering four hits, two runs and four walks, while striking out eight batters.
