The weakening Canadian dollar is having an impact at NorKam secondary, where the school fee for its International Baccalaureate (IB) academy could increase by $50.
The fee is now $400.

on secondary-school fees will be discussed at Monday’s Kamloops-Thompson board of education meeting.
The report said the IB academy increase is necessary to cover increases in mailing rates, examinations costs and the dip in the value of the loony, which closed on Friday at 81.71 cents US.
Meanwhile, the report also touches on other fees.
It recommends decreasing the fee for the Hockey Canada skills academy at Valleyview secondary, to $850 from $900.
No explanation is included in the report.
Sidow notes there are several new courses being offered that require additional fees, including a construction sampler at South Kamloops secondary, industrial design at Barriere secondary and a girl’s car-care course at Westsyde secondary. Fees for those courses range from $25 to $35.
Specialty academy fees at Brocklehurst middle school for aquatics, soccer, hockey and dance are recommended to remain unchanged, as is the academy fee at Beattie School of the Arts secondary.
The report also outlines tuition fees paid by the school district for students at its new trades school at NorKam, fees that range from $1,792 for the parts and warehousing course to $3,291 for the heavy mechanic and meat cutter/retail meat processing courses.
Each course has additional fees paid by the students for textbooks, equipment, supplies and other fees — including Thompson Rivers University student fees charged as the courses bring with them TRU credits — ranging from $1,140 for parts and warehousing to $2,1000 for piping.
