Re: KTW’s June 25 story on City of Kamloops wages (‘City payroll increased by $2.1 million in 2014’):
I need to comment on city CAO David Trawin’s comments on the high cost of our fire department.
If you look at the city’s budget breakdown, it shows approximately 10 per cent of the budget is for policing. 12 per cent is for fire protection and 21 per cent is for parks and recreation.
I would like my taxes used for protecting my property and myself rather than looking after our parks and recreation. If more money is needed for our fire protection, let’s take it from the departments that are nice to have, but not needed for protecting our city.
