Pesticide ban may impact curb appeal, home values

Editor:

Curb appeal is worth between five and 10 per cent of a home’s selling price.

It’s too bad our councillors didn’t take 20 minutes to Google that fact instead of costing homeowners untold millions of dollars in deflated selling prices.

Nothing turns a potential buyer off more than a messy yard and, for those readers who might welcome the reduction in property taxes that reduced selling prices will bring, dream on.

I can cite 90-million reasons why that is not going to happen while this council is in power.

For those who might opt for xeriscaping (an expensive alternative), I can only reflect on our last home sale.

We hired a professional to plan our yard, spent thousands of dollars having it all installed — and guess what?

The first thing the new owners did was to tear it down and install sod.

In fairness, they were from out of town and  accustomed to traditional values.

For those who don’t mind a clover-infested lawn, be prepared for bee stings, which is no laughing matter for those with serious allergies.
