A former Mountie is slated to appear in a Kamloops courtroom next month on sex-assault charges dating back three decades.

Alan Davidson, 58, was arrested in Calgary on Thursday, March 6, and charged with eight counts of indecent assault.

The allegations date back to the 1970s and 1980s and involve Davidson’s time as a youth sports coach in Clearwater, police have said.

The allegations came to light after a man came forward in 2012 and said he had been sexually assaulted by his hockey coach in the 1980s.

“Once we became aware of the allegations, our investigators immediately began a parallel review of Davidson’s service and time with the RCMP from application through to retirement,” said RCMP Supt. Brendan Fitzpatrick, noting there’s no evidence any of the assaults took place while Davidson was a cop.

Davidson joined the RCMP in 1982 and worked at detachments in Saskatchewan and Alberta until his retirement from the force in 1996.

The charges relate to eight separate victims.

Fitzpatrick urged any other victims to contact police.
