The TRU WolfPack women’s volleyball team put the Canada West conference on notice last night (Oct. 24), defeating the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 3-2 at the Tournament Capital Centre.
The scores were 25-17, 25-12, 22-25, 16-25, 15-11.
TRU improved to 2-3, while UBC fell to the same record.
“Anytime UBC comes in here and you get a win it’s a successful night,” WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm said in a news release, himself a UBC Alumna. “I thought we started pretty well. But we started to look around a little bit. UBC stepped it up defensively in the third set, as any good team does, and we fought it out in the fifth.”
TRU was led by Iuliia Pakhomenko, who had 21 kills, 10 digs, a solo block, two block assists and two service aces.
The teams will play again tonight (Oct. 25), 5 p.m., at the Tournament Capital Centre.
