Police have now launched a criminal investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a disabled senior in a Kamloops nursing home — a case that has already prompted a lawsuit against the facility, an employee and another resident.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Cheryl Bush said investigators are looking into the claims, which allege the incident took place last month at Kamloops Seniors Village in Aberdeen.

According to a notice of claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court last week, a care-home employee arranged a meeting between the alleged assailant and the 75-year-old alleged victim on April 13, leaving the two men alone.

The document claims the alleged assailant assaulted the alleged victim by touching his penis and scratching and bruising his thighs.

It also alleges Kamloops Seniors Village staff conspired to keep the incident under wraps, even holding a meeting among employees to make sure everyone was on the same page.

The notice of claim states the alleged victim now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, fatigue, sleeplessness, incidents of unstable angina and aggravation of his existing heart condition.

The alleged victim is seeking unspecified damages, health-care costs, moving costs and a restraining order, among other judgments.

In addition to Kamloops Seniors Village, the alleged assailant and a John Doe care-home employee are listed as defendants on the notice of claim.

None of the allegations have been proven in court and the police investigation is ongoing.
