Parts of Westsyde Road in Kamloops resemble muddy rivers as of 4 p.m. on Tuesday after a thunderstorm rolled through the neighbourhood, unleashing a brief, torrential downpour.
Jen Fretz, City of Kamloops public-works director, said there is some localized flooding in Oak Hills.
“We have crews on scene and on the way,” she said. “We will sweep the road, too, once debris has been removed. We are focusing on area of Westsyde Road and Parkview Drive.”

As of 5:30 p.m., residents were being evacuated from the mobile-home park.
“Due to a significant rain event causing localized flooding, RCMP are evacuating residents of the Oak Hills Trailer Park,” the City of Kamloops said in a statement. “Approximately two to three feet of water and debris has collected in this area. The City of Kamloops is establishing an emergency reception centre at Interior Savings Centre Parkside Lounge and is directing all Oak Hills residents to register at this location.”
The city said there have been no reported injuries.
As of 6:45 p.m., another severe storm was rolling through Kamloops, dumping heaving rain and producing lightning. Here’s the warning from Environment Canada:
“At 5:45pm PDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, dime to nickel size hail, and heavy rain. The thunderstorm is currently located just west of Kamloops near the west end of Kamloops Lake. The thunderstorm is moving eastward and will impact Kamloops and other communities along Highway 1 from Steelhead Provincial Park to Kamloops in the next hour.”
