Ban smokes, not weed killer

In an interview with CFJC-TV, Kamloops Coun. Tina Lange was asked why she was opposed to pesticides when scientists have found they are safe.

Her response was something to the effect that science evolves over time and that what scientists believe to be safe now might be found to be unsafe in the future.

The problem with her logic is that it means we cannot accept any finding made on a scientific basis as being factual and we might as well believe whatever it is that we want to believe.

If city council decides it wants to introduce bylaws based on personal beliefs, it should at least ask citizens for their input on what bad things ought to be regulated.

I expect things like plastic bags would be higher on our list of priorities than weed killer.

I would vote to outlaw all wood-burning fireplaces and furnaces (not just outdoor fires) and the sale and use of tobacco products anywhere within city limits.

Everyone knows both of these are far more harmful than weed killer.
